Michigan is a state in the Midwestern part of the United States. The name comes form the French language, meaning "large water" or "large lake". It is limited by Canada to the north and east, Ohio and Indiana to the south, and Illinois and Wisconsin to the west. Most of them are water boundaries. It has the longest freshwater shoreline in the world. It is located on two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, and The Upper Peninsula which is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac. The Upper Peninsula is very important for tourism and natural resources. The Upper Peninsula is mountainous in the west part and heavily forested. The Lower Peninsula land surface is leveled, with few hills and glacial moraines. Some of the most important economic activities are automobiles, cereals, pizza, technology, aerospace, copper, iron, and furniture. The state is home to one national park: Isle Royale National Park.
