Australia is a country in the Southern Hemisphere. It has the continental mainland, the island of Tasmania, and many smaller islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its is limited by the New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Islands, and Solomon to the north-east, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Indonesia, to the north, and New Zealand to the southeast. It is the world's smallest continent but the world's largest island. It is a constitutional democracy with a federal division of powers. Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Australia. She is represented in the country by the Governor General and locally by the Governors. Most of the landscape is a desert or semi-arid lands, as it is the flattest and the driest inhabited continent. It is a very developed and industrialized country. It is also very competitive in health care, human development, life expectancy, economic freedom, public education, quality of life, and the protection of political rights and civil liberties. It has strong international relationships as it is a member of G-20 , Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, WTO, OECD, and the ANZUS. It hosts the world's largest coral reef, The Great Barrier Reef, and the world's largest monolith, Mount Augustus. |
