Sydney is the capital state of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia. It is located on the south-east coast of Australia, on the Tasman Sea. Inhabitants of Sydney are called Sydneysiders, including a cosmopolitan and international population.
Sidney was the first British colony in Australia and it was established in 1788 by Arthur Phillip. The city is built on the hills surrounding Port Jackson, known as Sydney Harbour, where the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are situated. The border of the metropolitan area is surrounded by national parks, and the coastal regions offer many bays, rivers and beaches. In the city are many great parks, including Hyde Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
